By designer Tom Russell, Von Moltke's Triumph: The Fall of the Second Empire has been sent to the printer and will be available soon. Von Moltke's Triumph is a two-player game simulating the first decisive campaign of the Franco-Prussian War. Under Helmuth von Moltke the Elder, the German states used superior logistics, advanced artillery, and a strategy of envelopment to terrorize the sluggish and unprepared French. Historically, it ended with the capitulation and capture of Napoleon III after a mere five weeks. The game slants historically but is intended for competitive play: the French will almost always lose the war, but a good French Player can win the game.
A gamer playing The Russian Empire Strikes Back Lodz 1914 writes: "A very enjoyable game – particularly like the command points structure which gives a lot of flexibility – the EZOC movement and forced march options are especially good at keeping things fluid. I’ve attached a picture from turn 3 with the Germans pushing between 1st and 2nd armies but will they be able to capture enough VP towns to win?"
